22 Dec. 2007:    5414      Added a second daughter, Marion Simonds, born to Horace and Cinthia Burnham (Austin) Simonds.  This second child was found in the 1860 and 1870 censuses of Royalton, Vermont, living with her mother in 1860 and with her mother's second husband's family (Stephen Simmons) in 1870.  In 1870 Marion is age 19 and can not read or write, and is listed as "idiotic."
19 Dec. 2007:    5413      Added three more children of Edwin Joseph Rumrill and Cynthia Susan Simonds and revised the names of their other five children as found in a book, History of Royalton, Vermont, available online at Heritage Quest.  Also found additional information on their family in another book, Decennial Record of the Class of 1896, Yale College, which is available from Google Books and contains a biography of one of their sons, Clinton Joseph Rumrill, M.D., a member of the Yale Class of 1896.  Both of these links were brought to my attention by a living descendant, who is a correspondent.
17 Dec. 2007:    5410      1) Revised the name of the spouse of Horace Simonds from Cinthia to Cynthia Burnham Austin, and revised the name of their daughter from Cinthia S. Simonds to Cynthia Susan Simonds, who also was known a Susie C., based on research of a descendant who is a correspondent.  Also added a first spouse of Cynthia Susan Simonds and a child by him, and added the second spouse of Susie C. Simonds who was Edwin Joseph Rumrill, and five of their children as found in censuses of Windham Co., Vermont.  2) Added the birth of our fourth and probably last grandchild, Logan Daniel Braley, born 14 Dec 2007.
28 Oct. 2007:    5401      Added the fact that the marriage of Julius Sawtell Holden and Nancy B. Moore essentially ended between 1830 and 1840 when Julius left his wife and children in Vermont when he went to Bradford Co., Pennsylvania, where he joined his parents, a sister and two brothers.  All six lived out their lives in Bradford Co. and they are all buried in Macedonia Cemetery, Asylum Twp., Bradford Co., Pennsylvania.
26 Oct. 2007:    5401     1) Somehow I had inadvertently deleted the birth date of Julius Sawtell Holden, which I knew from two sources.  I restored it.  2) Added and revised birth, death and marriage information for the family of Arathusa Holden and her spouse, Darius Davis.  Information for this update came from several censuses of Essex and Saratoga Counties of New York.
22 Oct. 2007:    5401      Added burial and revised death date and location for Leman Royce Gaylord and Catherine Mary Spencer, his wife.  Information for this update came from obtaining a transcription of his obituary from a researcher and the 1900 census of Atchison Co., Kansas.
19 Oct. 2007:    5401      Added birth date and location and marriage information for Margaret Jane Skidmore, who was the spouse of Janny Lewis Hosman, who was also known as Lewis J. Hosman.  Information for this update came from several censuses of Johnson Co., Missouri, and the Ancestry.com online database Johnson County, Missouri Marriages: 1862-79.
13 Oct. 2007:    5401      Added probable death information for Sewall Davis and his wife, Hannah (Reed) Davis.  This information is based on finding the probable household of Sewall/Sewell Davis in the 1840 census of Northfield, Vermont, listed under his son's name, Howard Davis, but including the same aged persons as the 1830 census for the Sewall Davis household, now 10 years older.  And on finding the probable widow of Sewall Davis, Hannah Davis, in the 1850 census of Northfield, living in the household of their now married eldest son, Howard Davis and family.
9 Oct. 2007:    5401      Added more information about Hannah Reed, and her husband, Sewal/Suel Davis, from a book History of the town of Waitsfield, Vermont, 1782-1908 that is online at Heritage Quest, and the 1830 and 1880 censuses of Northfield, Washington Co., Vermont.

1 Oct. 2007:    5401      Corrected the spelling of the middle name of Joseph Pliny Nichols, son of Phineas and Martha G. (Gibson) Nichols.  Also corrected several typographical errors.
29 Sep. 2007:    5401     1) Added five children of Phineas Nichols and Martha Gregg (Gibson) Nichols, who were identified in the Bible of Phineas Nichols, but were not counted in any census.  Also revised several additional details about this family that were also found in Phineas' Bible. 2) Confirmed that Rosina (Braley) Hughes, daughter of Kneeland B. Braley and Martha Jane Lord, died 29 Mar 1935 in Saint Paul, Ramsey Co., Minnesota, from a copy of her Death Certificate from the Minnesota Historical Society.  Deleted the other possible death date for a Mrs. Rose Hughes, who was the wrong person.
27 Sep. 2007:    5396      Added and revised details for the descendants of Hugh Thorpe and his wife Mary E. Coffin.  Information for this update came from a second letter from the living descendant who sent me a letter in June 2007.  In this second letter she clarifies some of my misunderstandings of the first letter.
25 Sep. 2007:    5396      Changed the birth location of Pamela Wright, wife of Joseph M. Gibson, from Ohio to probably Virginia.  She is shown in censuses to have been born in both Ohio and in Virginia.  Ohio was opened to settlers in 1804 and no census was taken there in 1810, but many Wright families are in the 1810 census of Virginia.
22 Sep. 2007:    5396      Added Joseph M. Gibson and Pamela (Wright) Gibson, his wife.  They were the parents of Martha G. Gibson, who was the wife of Phineas Nichols.  The information for this update comes from the 1850 census of Knox Co., Ohio, the 1880 census of West Liberty, Muscatine Co., Iowa, and the West Liberty, Iowa, Public Library web site, Genealogy Section databases.

Gibson.  This information based on records contained in the Bible of Phineas Nichols and the 1850 census of Berlin Twp., Knox Co., Ohio.
11 Sep. 2007:    5394      Received a genealogy report, Ancestors of Minnie Bell Jones, a PDF file created by the living Jones family researcher of the previous update.  From this document I obtained the birth date of Minnie Bell Jones, the date of her marriage to Roy L. Burch and the surname of the mother of Roy L. Burch.

1 Sep. 2007:    5394      Received a photocopy of the Missouri Death Certificate for the William H. Jackson who died August 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri, he is an African American and another person who is not William H. Jackson, born 1854 in Wisconsin, that I was hoping for.  William H. Jackson and his second wife, Sarah M. (--?--) Jackson, cannot be found in the Missouri State Death Certificate database, or in the 1930 census of any state, so they probably did not die in Missouri, but somewhere else, unknown, between 1920 and 1930.
30 Aug. 2007:    5394      I have been informed by a living correspondent that the mother of Martha Jane Lord was Margaret Varney and added an omitted source for the birth date of Martha Jane Lord as September 1832.
29 Aug. 2007:    5394      William Jackson (previous update) was buried in 1896 in the West Cemetery, Sigourney Twp.. Keokuk Co., Iowa.  From a RootsWeb Review of November, 2000, I have found that cemetery is now known as Pleasant Grove Cemetery, and have revised his burial location to show that.
28 Aug. 2007:    5394      Revised information on the death of William Jackson, born about 1810 in England or Scotland, who was the husband of Rachel (Hosman) Jackson, they were my 2nd great-grandparents.  This was based on finding his burial record in the Iowa WPA Graves Registration Survey database on the Keokuk Co., Iowa GenWeb website, and realizing that was near where his daughter, Alice S. (Jackson) Pendleton, was living at the time of his death.  Also found that he was listed as living in Sigourney, Keokuk Co. in the 1895 Iowa State Census, while Alice and her family were living in Thornburg, Keokuk Co. in that census.

19 Aug. 2007:    5394      Added Harry O. Davis, who was the husband of Setha/Sadie E. Hean, and Melissa E. Davis, who was their only child, because Setha/Sadie (Hean) Davis died soon after the birth of Melissa.  Information for this update comes from 1895 and 1900 censuses of Harper Co., Kansas.
18 Aug. 2007:    5392      Added the three children of Robert R. Hean and Elizabeth (Eaton) Hean who were siblings of Edith (Hean) [Dixon] Hager.  Also changed the death information for Robert R. Hean from possibly Harper Co., Kansas, to Los Angeles where he was found to have died 19 Oct 1918 in the California Deaths Database.  Both of his sons registered for the WWI draft in California in September 1918, one, Charles Westley Hean, registered in Los Angeles Co., with whom he was probably living at the time.

Hosman, and his wife, Margaret Jane (Skidmore) Hosman; Lois Edna (Dixon/Hager) Deming; and Clare Monroe Linscott.  This update is based on finding their Death Certificates, or the indexed record of a Death Certificate, in the Missouri State Archive's database Missouri Death Certificates, 1910 – 1956.

Hean and Elizabeth (Eaton) Hean.  Also added the 1850 census of Lebanon Co., Pennsylvania, as a new source for the birth of Robert R. Hean at Lebanon Co. in 1853 to Robert S. Hean and Sarah (Lesher) Hean and added the 1885 Iowa State census of Des Moines Co. as a new source for the 1885 death of Sarah (Lesher) Hean in Des Moines Co.

10 Aug. 2007:    5388      Revised the date of death for William H. Jackson after finding a record of the death of a William H. Jackson in August 1939 in Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri.  This is during a period when the state has not finished digitizing the death certificates, so I sent for a copy to see if it is for the right person.
9 Aug. 2007:    5388      Found the Daniel Powell household in the 1860 census of Wyandotte Co., Kansas.  In this census Ellen Powell, aka: Eleanor Joy Powell, is age 8, born in Virginia.  This census is additional support for the fact that she was born in late 1851 or early 1852, and that her claim to have been born in April 1855 in the 1900 census and in her death certificate was false.
8 Aug. 2007:    5388      1) Revised death information for John Rogers Hitchcock and Clark Colton Hitchcock and birth and death information for his wife, Marion Ida (See) Hitchcock.  This update was the result of finding death certificates for Clark C. Hitchcock and his wife, and the indexed record of the death certificate for John R. Hitchcock, online at the State of Missouri Archives website.  2) Revised death and birth information for Eleanor Joy Powell, the wife of William H. Hitchcock, based on finding her death certificate in the same database as today's first update.
3 Aug. 2007:    5388      Added information about the death of Rhoda (Brown) Crone, the former spouse of Jacob G. Crone.  She died 13 Oct 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri, and her death certificate was online at the State of Missouri Archives website.  She was returned to Des Moines, Iowa, for burial.
1 Aug. 2007:    5388      Added Josiah Brown and his wife, Sarah (--?--) Brown, who were the parents of Rhoda (Brown) Crone and great-grandparents of Neil Pendleton/Louis Crone.  Information for this addition came from several censuses of Morrow Co., Ohio, where Josiah Brown and family were living before and after Rhoda's birth; and the 1870 census of Deep River Twp., Poweshiek Co., Iowa, which was where they were living shortly after Rhoda's marriage to Jacob G. Crone, and was the last census in which I could find them.

29 July 2007:    5386      Found a biography of Joseph Crone, Jr. of Deep River Twp, Poweshiek Co, Iowa, who was a brother of Jacob G. Crone. His biography contained a lot of information about their father, Joseph Crone.  From it I added Sarah J. Watts, who was the first wife of Joseph Crone, and added the full name of his second wife, Jane Burns, who was the mother of both Jacob, and Joseph, Jr.  Also revised and added more details and sources for facts about other members of this family.

6 July 2007:    5377      Found that Jesse Dailey, his wife Margaret (Hitchcock) Dailey and their infant daughter, Edith Almira Dailey, were enumerated in the 1856 Iowa State Census of Camanche, Clinton Co.  That fact confirms several other secondary sources that indicate that Edith was born in Camanche and they lived there for a few years before moving to Rock Island Co., Illinois, where her parents lived for the remainder of their lives.
5 July 2007:    5377      Visited the Adriance Memorial Library, Poughkeepsie, New York, and found the Obituary Index for 1890-1899 that includes the death date for Almira Mosher, and also found on microfilm there, in the December 24, 1893 edition of the Sunday Courier a very brief obituary for Almira Mosher/Moshier.  Revised the sources for information about her death.
4 July 2007:    5377      Found that Almira (Otis) [Hitchcock] Mosher died in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co., New York, on December 22, 1893, from the obituary index of the Adriance Memorial Library, Poughkeepsie, New York.  The Poughkeepsie City Directories were correct that she was living in 1893.  I hope to be able to get an obituary after the holiday today.
2 July 2007:    5377      Revised the life details for, and added links from Almira Otis, who was the second wife of William P. Hitchcock, to the three of her Hitchcock step children, who named a child in her honor, and added links from them back to her.
30 Jun. 2007:    5377      Added Phebe Wait, who was the first spouse of Reuben Mosher, and revised details of his brief second marriage to Almira (Otis) Hitchcock, the widow of William Parmelee Hitchcock and the stepmother of his five children by Louisa (Rich) Hitchcock, his first wife.  Most of the information for this update comes from Tripp Genealogical Web Site and 1855 and 1860 censuses of Saratoga Co., New York.

27 Jun. 2007:    5376      Revised death and marriage details and sources primarily for the family of Joseph Coffin and Lydia (Airy) Coffin.  This update is based on finding Lydia Coffin, a widow, in the 1885 Kansas State Census of Phillips Co., Kansas, not finding Lydia Coffin in the 1920 Census anywhere, and finding that Lydia was living in her parents household in Hardin Co., Iowa, in the 1856 Iowa State Census.
25 Jun. 2007:    5376      Changed the approximate birth date for Lela L. (Thorpe) White from March 1887 to March 1888 based on analysis of seven Iowa State and US Censuses where she is listed.  As a result of that change, also changed the approximate date of her marriage to William Leclerce White.
24 Jun. 2007:    5376      Revised the information about probable deaths of William L. White and Lela L. (Thorpe) White, based on finding a Social Security Death Index death record and an obituary for him in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in March 1971.  Lela White's death is not recorded in Cedar Rapids, so she may have died earlier, possibly in Jackson Co., Iowa, where their son went to high school and enlisted in the US Army in 1943. I have written both the Linn and Jasper Co. Genealogy Societies for more information.

22 Jun. 2007:    5370      Found the World War I Draft Registration card for William Leclerce White of Pottawattamie Co., Iowa.  He was the spouse of Lela L. Thorpe.  His draft registration shows that he spelled his middle name as Leclerce, and gave his birth date as 31 Aug 1881.  Revised the dates and sources to include this source.

17 Jun. 2007:    5370     [Revised: 20-21 Jun 2007] Tried to clarify that Isabel Stuart was not an orphan who was adopted by her Uncle, William Hall Stuart, and his wife, Alice A. (Braley) Stuart.  Isabel was born 26 July 1904 in Nebraska and her mother, Jennie (Mott) Stuart, died soon after, perhaps in connection with her birth.  Her father, Alfred Harvey Stuart, farming in Nebraska, probably was unable to care for an infant daughter.  Most likely she was temporarily cared for by her maternal grandparents, the Motts, who lived nearby.  Apparently, after 1905, her father asked his brother in Iowa to raise his daughter.  According to the 1905 Iowa State Census, Isabel is not living with Hall and Alice Stuart in Story Co. in 1905, but she is living with them by the 1910 census of Grinnell.  According to the Kellogg Enterprise, Alfred H. Stuart, came back to Iowa several times to visit his daughter.  Revisions were made to facts and sources to make this clear, and links were created between Isabel Stuart and her uncle and his wife, William Hall and Alice A. (Braley) Stuart.
16 Jun. 2007:    5370      Added the probable parents of Hugh Thorpe, who was born 1854 in Chicago, of parents born in England, per the 1880 census of the Joseph Braley household in Kellogg, Jasper Co., Iowa.  They are Charles Thorpe and his wife, only identified as Mrs. Thorpe, both born in England, who per the 1850 census, are the only English born Thorpe family in Chicago, Illinois, shortly before Hugh's birth.  Added the three siblings of Hugh Thorpe, also known from the 1850 census of Chicago.  Added links between Hugh Thorpe and his foster parent's, Joseph and Almira (Whitcomb) Braley.
15 Jun. 2007:    5365      Added twenty-eight additional descendants of Hugh Thorpe and Mary E. (Coffin) Thorpe, as contributed by correspondence with a living granddaughter of Hugh and Mary Thorpe.  All of the people added in this update are fourth or fifth generation descendants and most are living.
14 Jun. 2007:    5337      Added ten descendants of Hugh Thorpe and Mary E. (Coffin) Thorpe and revised information about the several descendants that I had previously included in my database.  Hugh Thorpe was a 1859 Orphan Train child from Chicago who was taken in by Joseph Braley and his wife, Elmira Whitcomb, of Kellogg, Iowa, before they had children of their own.  This addition includes information on several descendants who are living, and will not fully display on WorldConnect.  Information for this update comes from recent correspondence with a living descendant.
11 Jun. 2007:    5327      Discovered additional documentation in the 1855 New York State Census of Galway, Saratoga Co., showing that Reuben Mosher was born in Dutchess Co., New York, and that Almira Otis was born in Saratoga Co., New York.  And with the 1860 US Census of Galway, confirms that Deborah (Gillett) Otis died in Galway between 1855 and 1860.  The 1855 census also shows that shortly after the death of William P. Hitchcock 1 Nov 1850, Almira (Otis) Hitchcock returned to the home of her parents, possibly before the death of her father in Jan 1851.  From the 1860 Census of Galway, we also know that both Almina or Almira (Otis) Hitchcock and Reuben Mosher were living there in 1860, just 3 years before they married.

Also added more documentation for the marriage of William P. Hitchcock and Almira Otis, and the fact that she was in Lee Co., Iowa, by April 1842 when she was received into the Congregational Church of Denmark, Lee Co., Iowa.

Bendickson, who was the spouse of Annie Louella/Luella Hanson. In the 1925 Iowa State census, two of her sons, brothers of George, indicated that her surname was that of her father, Amond Wickoren.

4 May 2007:    5276     Added an unnamed daughter, born before 1840, to the family of John Braley and Abigail (Fuller) Braley.  This child was discovered in the 1840 census of Roxbury, Vermont, but she did not live to the 1850 census of Brookfield, Vermont.  Also added three probable children of Moses Darling and Almira (Braley) Darling, and the second spouse of Moses Darling, who were found living in the 1850 census of Warren, Vermont.  Moses Darling and his second wife, Eusebia (--?--) Darling were also found in the 1900 census of Strawberry Point, Iowa, where they indicated that they were married fifty years, so all of the children born before 1850 were children of Moses and Almira (Braley) Darling.

22 Apr. 2007:    5165     1) Because I found that after the death of Kneeland/Kneelan B. Braley, Martha Jane (Lord) Braley remarried, first to a Remmey in 1880, and second to an Allen before 1910, I was able to find better information about her death.  In the Minnesota Death Index online database at Ancestry.com, I found that Martha J. Allen died 13 Nov 1919 in St. Paul, Minnesota.  From the same database I also found better death information for her daughter, Rosina (Braley) Hughes, and her husband Lucius A. Hughes.  2) Added James L. Allen who was the third spouse of Martha Jane Lord. They were married and living in St. Paul, Minnesota, in the 1900 census. They had been married about 12 years in 1900. He died probably before 1908, and Martha is a widow in her daughter's household in the 1910 census of St. Paul. Also added details about the life of Oscar S. Remmey, who was her second spouse, they were apparently divorced by 1888 when she married James L. Allen.

Clark to my database because he is not a involved in the genealogy of any Braley, Wardner, Cahill, etc. descendants.

Baker, age 29, born April 1871 in Vermont, she is not named in the census, but she is his new wife, age 24, born December 1875 in Maryland.  Neither are found in the Ancestry.com index.

Atwood who was introduced in the previous update.  Information about her parents came from the marriage record of Helen M. Atwood to Ernest D. Ryerson, the 1900 & 1910 censuses of Boston and Boston City Directories.  2) Found the marriage record for Manley O. Brailey and his second wife, Elisabeth "Lizzie" A. Grover, in the NEHGS online database, Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841-1910.  That was a source of information about her and their marriage which was not previously known to me.  Lizzie became the step-mother of the five young sons, of Manley O. Brailey by his deceased first wife, Laura Jane Cook.  When Manley O. Brailey deserted Lizzie and the boys about 1880, Lizzie, in her early twenties, was unable to keep the family together, and the boys were placed with other families.  The youngest boy, Ernest Dwight Brailey, was placed with the family of Silas C. Ryerson.  He was the only son actually adopted, he became Ernest Dwight Ryerson.

Ryerson and his wife, Mary Frances "Fannie" Richardson, who were the adoptive parents of Ernest Dwight Brailey, whose surname became Ryerson in about 1880.  Information for this addition comes from Braley Genealogy and from a researcher of the Ryerson and associated families.
3 Mar. 2007:    4887      Found that Helen (--?--) Wardner, the third wife of Sylvanus Wardner, was Helen Rolfe, and that they were married November 9, 1876 in New Hampshire.  Also found that Helen (Rolfe) Wardner and Patrick Henry Cahill probably both died between 1932 and 1933 according to City Directories of Concord, New Hampshire.  Those directories also showed that Maurice F. Cahill probably died, and the remainder of Patrick Henry Cahill's family probably moved to California, between 1937 and 1938.  Finally, Mary C. Cahill, Patrick's sister, remained listed in the Concord directories through 1960, unmarried, and working for the same company where she worked in 1933, and she died in May 1969 according to the SSDI.

Cahill, who was Patrick Henry Cahill, born 9 December 1879, on his World War I Draft registration card that he filled out on 12 September 1918 in Concord, Merrimack Co., New Hampshire.  Also added that Mariola Lynch, wife of Gerald Edward Cahill, was also known as "Pinky" Lynch; and that the name of Patrick Henry Cahill's father was Maurice rather than Morris as in the 1880 census.  In the 1880 census of Concord Morris Cahill is a stone cutter; in the 1880 City Directory of Concord the only Cahill stone cutter is Maurice Cahill.  In the 1916 City Directory of Concord Hannah Cahill is the widow of Maurice Cahill.  Patrick's first son, born 1911, was probably named Maurice after his grandfather.

Braley to Sherman Ace Braley as shown on his WWI Draft registration card, from Los Angeles County draft board.  3) Changed birth date and location for Milo J. Wilson from 5 Apr 1848 in Northfield, VT, which I thought was a correction of the obvious error in Braley Genealogy, which had the date as 5 Apr 1884, to 5 Apr 1844 probably in Danville, Caledonia Co., Vermont.  This is based on three consecutive censuses of Vermont that show Milo Wilson at age 6 in Danville in 1850, 16 in 1860 and 26 in 1870.
8 Feb. 2007:    4817      Added Sylvanus Wardner who was the spouse of Jane Braley, daughter of Daniel and Emily (Braley) Braley, born about 1838 probably in Northfield, Vermont, but living in Brookfield, Vermont shortly after the 1850 census.  I had no knowledge of this marriage until I found that researchers of the Sergent/Sargent family had a Jane Braley who married Sylvanus Wardner in Brookfield in the 1850s.  She had one son, Frank Wardner, who was born in Roxbury in 1857.  I confirmed these facts by the 1860 census of Roxbury, Washington Co., and have also added their son to my database.  Both Jane and her son appear to have died before the 1870 census where they cannot be found.

Braley, where I had mistakenly associated a source for his father's birth with his birth.

(Hotchkiss) Hitchcock as forwarded to me by a living researcher who visited the cemetery where they were buried.  2) Added Frederick E. Hitchcock who was a child of Rev. Allen B. Hitchcock and Frances E. (Hotchkiss) Hitchcock, who was born and died before the 1850 census and was previously unknown to me.  His birth was disclosed in a biography of Rev. Allen B. Hitchcock, provided by the Rock Island County Historical Society.  Also added six more known grandchildren of Rev. and Mrs. Allen B. Hitchcock, as found in several censuses of Rock Island Co., Illinois.

Braley.  Also added her spouse, Clarence Edward Bahrenfuse, and their two children.  This information was provided by a living Braley descendant and researcher who knew Doris well.

1. From the time the Islands were settled until 7 Jul 1898 they were known as the Kingdom of Hawai'i, I have used Kingdom Hawai'i.
2. In 1788 Captain James Cook of Great Britain arrived in the Islands of the Kingdom of Hawai'i, he named them the Sandwich Islands. That name was generally not used by the people of Hawai'i, and is not used by me.
3. Between 7 Jul 1898 - 21 Aug 1959 the Islands were a Territory of the US known as the Territory of Hawai'i, I have used Hawai'i Terr..
4. On 21 Aug 1959 the Islands became the 50th State of USA, known as Hawaii, I have used Hawaii or HI.
This update mainly effects Harvey Rexford Hitchcock and Elizabeth Maria Hitchcock, who were early missionaries in the Kingdom of Hawai'i, and their spouses and descendants.
