19 Dec. 2004:    4156     Deleted the individual whom I had indentified as Flora Harmon or Tucker from my database.  She was not a child of George W. Harmon and she was not a child of Seth M. Tucker and Mary M. Hitchcock.  She may have been a niece of George W. Harmon, but by 1880 she had returned to Caldwell Co., Missouri, where she married, had a family and died in 1919.
14 Dec. 2004:    4157     1) Added Edward D. Beaumont as the first spouse of Alma/Almeda Elizabeth Hitchcock, by whom she had 5 children.   Their marriage probably ended in divorce between 1910 and 1917 when she married Charles William Walker by whom she had 2 more children.  This information was found in the 1910 census of Mariposa Co., California, and later censuses of California and Arizona.  2) Identified the ? Jackson who was the spouse of Adele Howard Hitchcock as James A. Jackson of Kentucky.  There were no known children from this union.  This information was found in the 1930 census of Oakland, California, the California Deaths Database and the Social Security Death Index.

Davidson to Ethel Grigsby, after finding their family living in her mother's household in the 1920 census of Yolo Co., California.  2) Added details about Clara S. Hitchcock, including her husband, Ernest W. Walker, and their deaths in Oregon.  This information as found in the Oregon Death Index, Social Security Death Index and the 1930 census of Eugene, Lane Co., Oregon.

26 Nov. 2004:    4144     Added Dr. Edward Snell who was the first spouse of Josephine Otis Hitchcock and by whom she had her only child. After his death in 1940 she married a Mr. Walsh and she died as Josephine Walsh in 1951.  This information comes from correspondence with a living descendant of Sabra E. Hitchcock, a sister of Josephine O. Hitchcock, several California cenuses and the California Deaths Database.

Hitchcock who was a sister of Sabra E. Hitchcock.  These details include a Mr. Curb who was the last spouse of Grace W. Hitchcock.  This information was also found in the California Deaths Database.

31 Oct. 2004:    4133     1) Added Kepford Ricker Jr. and his wife Edith (--?--) Ricker as found from his 2004 obituary from Santa Rosa, California, found in the Ancestry.com Obituary Collection online database.  This Kepford Ricker has to be the son of Kepford Ricker and his wife Isabel (Stuart) Ricker who died 1987 and 1993 in the same community as this latest Kepford Ricker.  His obituary gives very little genealogy information, but there is enough there and with his Social Security Death Index record, it seems clear that his parents were living with or near their son when they died.  2) Added Eleanor Ricker, sister of Kepford Ricker Sr., whose obituary proves that the Kepford Ricker who died 30 Aug 2004 (above) was the son of her brother, Kepford Ricker.  Also added details on the lives, deaths and burials of the parents of Eleanor and Kepford Ricker, as found in their obituaries, from the Stewart Library, Grinnell, Iowa.  To see all the obituaries I have obtained from that source, including the latest three, click this link.
30 Oct. 2004:    4130     1) Received copies of the marriage license for Joseph Guy Braley and Mary Inez Benedict and her obituary from the Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society of Wichita, Kansas.  Based on those documents, added facts about their marriage and about her death and survivors.  Added a Mr. Daniels as the husband of their daughter Josephine Inez Braley and deleted Robert Dean Braley, who was born and died 1937, as a their son, because she would have been 60 years old when he was born and he was not listed as predeceasing her.  He may have been a grandson, but his parents are unknown.  2) Also added additional facts about this family and her parents as found in the 1930 census of Wichita, Sedgwick Co., Kansas, and the 1900 census of New Sharon, Mahaska Co., Iowa.
28 Oct. 2004:    4130     Found that the 8 month old unnamed daughter in the 1860 household of Seth M. and Mary (Hitchcock) Tucker did live at least until 1870.  In the 1870 census her name was Emily A. Tucker and she was then living with her grandparents, George B. and Caroline (Grossman) Hitchcock, in Lowell Twp., Cherokee Co., Kansas.  When I previously examined that census I just missed her.  She is not living with them or her mother in 1875, and cannot be found in the 1880 census.
25 Oct. 2004:    4130     Added six more children of the grandchildren of Seth M. Tucker and Mary Mariah (Hitchcock) Tucker.  All information as found in several censuses between 1920 and 1930 of Colorado, California and New Mexico.

(Tucker) Hobson, and added 10 children of those families.  All of these children are descendants of Seth M. Tucker and Mary Mariah (Hitchcock) Tucker.  All information as found in several censuses between 1900 and 1930 of Colorado and Washington.

15 Oct. 2004:    4105     Changed the date of death of Joseph Coffin from before 1910 to before 1900, because I had failed to notice that in 1900, Lydia Coffin, his widow, was living in the Hugh Thorpe household in Kellogg Twp., Jasper Co., Iowa, with her daughter Mary (Coffin) Thorpe and two grandchildren.  Also made several other changes to details of this family based on findings from several censuses.

Braley and Tina Marie (Eskow) Braley.  Happy Birth Day Mason!  2) Added eight children of Eliakim Hitchcock and Sarah (Merrick) Hitchcock, replacing a single "Eight Children Hitchcock".  These children as found in The Hitchcock Family by Mary L. Hitchcock, 1894.
6 Oct. 2004:    4083     Added a second spouse of Stashia Augusta (Johnson) Hitchcock.  She was the spouse of Milton Badger Hitchcock, who was only 45 when he died January 1939.  Some time after Milton's death she married Frank A. Schubert who died in 1968.  She died June 1972 and was buried as Stashia A. Schubert next to Frank A. Schubert.  This information came from the Colorado State Archives databases for the two cemeteries and the Social Security Death Index.

Stotts, replacing a single "Six Children Tucker".  Also added four spouses of those children.  This information was obtained from several censuses, the California Death Index and the Social Security Death Index.  2) Found and cited my source for the death of Heber H. Hitchcock.  Also found, from several censuses, that after Heber's death in 1901 his surviving wife, Mary L. (King) [Brown] Hitchcock, lived in Lola Twp., Cherokee Co., Kansas, with her son Frank G. Brown until after the 1930 census.

23 Sep. 2004:    4067     Added about 25 individituals who are descendants of Mary Mariah Hitchcock and Seth M.(Morton) Tucker.  These are primaily the children of Mary and Seth Tucker, their spouses, and their children.  This information comes primarily from numerous censuses of Iowa, Kansas and Colorado, as well as the Social Security Death Index and the California Death Index.  It is a correction of the name and birth parents of Lincoln C. Harmon, who was mistakenly attributed to George W. Harmon and his first wife, but he was really Lincoln C. Tucker, the last child or Seth Morton Tucker and Mary M. Hitchcock.  As well as the recognition of Delmer Tucker whose real name was George D.(Delmer) Tucker and was the first child of Seth and Mary Tucker.

Layman/Lymon, natural son of Alma Germaine Emmons and her 1st husband, Henry Layman.  They were divorced before 1910 and after 1912 Alma Layman/Lymon married a Mr. Marpe.  George Layman became a step son of her 2nd husband and may have been known as George Marpe.  2) Added four children of Nils Olson and Anne Gundersdatter, replacing a single "Several Children Olson," with the names of their children found in the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Nunda Twp., Freeborn Co., Minnesota.
12 Sep. 2004:    4040     1) Added Emma Iverson as the wife of Otto Olsen as found in a manuscript identifying mainly the descendants of Gunder Sørensen who took the surname Olien or Åalien, that I had overlooked.  They were brothers and sisters of Henry G. Emmons (Helge Gundersen).  2) Received information from the Blaisdell Family National Association that Grace (Emmons) Blaisdell, a.k.a. Mrs. Alfred Blaisdell died 10 Feb 1965 at Roosevelt Hospital, New York City.  3) Revised the date of death of my grandmother, Evelyn (Emmons) Braley to 20 Aug 1958, as discovered from her obituary that had been missplaced.  Her obituary also indicated that she was survived by a sister Mrs. Alfred Blaisdell of Bronxville, New York.
10 Sep. 2004:    4039     Added the middle names of Stanley Alfred Smith and Robert Virgil Smith and a birth date for Robert.  Thanks to a St. Charles, Iowa, researcher, who posted photographs of their parents' and a brother's gravestones and found the additional information for me.  Also revised their ancestry slightly as a result of finding their great-grandparents in the 1850 census of Mahaska Co., Iowa.
9 Sep. 2004:    4039     Added Juel Andersen of Egge and his wife, Kiersti Steffensdatter, who are the probable parents of Mikkel Juelsen of Egge.  Also added Steffen Tostensen and Siri Eriksdatter who are the parents of Kiersti Steffensdatter and the grandparents of Mikkel Juelson.  He is the father of Christi/Kjersti Mikkelsdatter of Egge, who is the mother of Christine Larson (Mrs. Henry G. Emmons).

Brooks Jared Harral.
3 Sep. 2004:    4009     Revised, again, probable place of birth of Sarah A. Mumma, last child of Col. Morton C. Mumma and Gail Cass (Zugschwert) Mumma after finding their family in the 1930 census of Denver, where she is shown as born in Ohio, rather than Iowa.  That is probably correct, because when the family left Iowa City in 1912, Gail (Zugschwert) Mumma probably took her children to live with her parents in Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio.  At that time Morton Mumma's parents also lived in Hancock Co.  It is most likely that Sarah/Sara was born there in 1913.

Mumma and Gail Cass (Zugschwert) Mumma after finding several reports of where he was stationed when they were born.  Also added the actual date of death for one of their children, Martha Alona (Mumma) Keyes, after finding the name of her husband and the record of her death in the Social Security Death Index.

That information, as well as several facts there about her and her 1st husband, Samuel Frank Steffy, came from a web site created in part from information provided by her living children.  3) Added the parents of Florence Pearl Smith as found in the same web site and confirmed by the 1900 census of Madison Twp., Mahaska Co., Iowa.

Braley, who was found as a 4 month old infant, buried after July 30, 1898, in the Bennett plot of Our Silent City Cemetery, Kellogg, Iowa.  She is the daughter of Fred A. and Laura E. (Bennett) Braley, who indicated in the 1900 census of Harvey, Illinois, that she had 4 children born, and 3 currently living.  Their daughter born March 31, 1898, probably in Harvey, was apparently taken home to Laura's parents for a visit, or to get help for a sick baby, where she died and was buried in Kellogg.
25 Aug. 2004:    3999     1) Added Julius R. Cole the son of James W. and Harriet S. (Hitchcock) Cole, who was born 1844, died an infant in 1845 and was buried in the Old Fairfield Cemetery in the Hitchcock Plot, Lot 66.  This as found in the book Jefferson County, Iowa Cemeteries, Old Fairfield, published by the Iowa Genealogical Society.  Also added several other burials as found in that book.  2) Added Julia A. Whitcomb the first child of John T. and Jane Louisa (Braley) Whitcomb, who was born Oct. 1873, died Oct. 1874 and was buried in Our Silent City Cemetery, Kellogg, Iowa. She was buried near two of her mother's siblings who died about the same time.  This as found in the book Jasper County, Iowa Cemeteries, Silent City, published by the Iowa Genealogical Society.  Also added several other burials as found in that book.  3) Added details for three more persons as found in their obituaries from the Stewart Library.  To see a list of the original 17 people, and these 3 more, click this link.

Clifford's 2nd wife was Florence Steffy and she was mother of four Steffy step children of his who were mentioned in his obituary, which led to the addition of Samuel F. Steffy who was the 1st husband of Florence P. (--?--) Steffy.  Their family was found in the 1920 and 1930 censuses of Iowa and Poweshiek Counties, Iowa.  The Steffy children in the 1930 census of Montezuma are the step children of Clifford Braley in his obituary.  2) Added details about the death and burial of Alice Amanda (Braley) Stuart as found in her obituary and burial notice from the Grinnell Herald-Register, Grinnell, Iowa.

10 Aug. 2004:    3982     Replaced the unknown spouse of Foreman Spencer, who was the mother of the three children who married children of Samuel and Rachel (Welsh) Cole, with his first wife, Dorothy Wiseman, who was the mother of all children born before 1830, and his second wife Margaret Evans, who was found in the 1850 census. This was established from the age of Margaret in the 1850 census, and the ages of his wife in the 1820, 1830 and 1840 censuses. Clearly he married a younger wife between 1830 and 1840.
8 Aug. 2004:    3981     Added the father, Foreman Spencer, and an unknown mother of Wilson, Caleb Wiseman and Elizabeth Spencer, who all married children of Samuel and Rachel (Welsh) Cole.  This as found in a book on the Welsh family in Ohio.  Also added more details on the lives of their children as a result of finding more in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses of Muskingum Co., Ohio.

12 July 2004:    3939     Added Dwight Floyd Dudley, the third child of Floyd Willam Dudley and Velma C. (Rieks) Dudley, as found in the California Deaths Database, an online database of the State of California that includes year 2000. He was born 1932 in Colorado, after the 1930 census, in which his older brother and sister were found. He died December 1998 in Los Angeles County, California, and his mother's maiden name was Rieks. In his Social Security Death listing his date of death was marked "V" meaning that it was verified, probably by a living descendant whom I would like to contact, if possible.
11 July 2004:    3938     Found the obituary for Mrs. L. S. Deming, a.k.a. Lois Edna (Dixon/Hager) [Price] Deming, in the May 18, 1956 edition of the Ames Daily Tribune that confirmed she was born in Anthony, Kansas, and that she died, while on a visit with her son Dr. C. R. Deming in Saint Joseph, Missouri, and was buried there.  Also found that Lois E. Price had married Loren S. Deming October 2, 1919 in Wichita, Sedgwick Co., Kansas, from the index of Sedgwick Co., Kansas, marriage index, which is another online database of the Kansas State Library.

This all as found in the censuses of Cedar and Muscatine Counties of Iowa, and the online newspapers of Iowa City.  2) Added Willard A. Rice, who was the spouse of Helen Mackey daughter of Walter L. (Hotchkiss) Hitchcock, and three of their children. This also taken from book The Hitchcock Family by Mary L. Hitchcock, published 1894, as updated by Illinois Marriage data and several censuses.

She died 1966 in California and is identified in the California Death Index as Love B. Hayward whose mother's maiden name was Webb.  2) Added a still-born child to the family of George B. Hitchcock and Caroline (Grossman) Hitchcock, as discovered in a letter written in 1847 by George B. Hitchcock to his sister Elizabeth describing his family.
12 Mar. 2004:    3672     1) Added an unknown third wife of Warren H. Flanders, whom he had married about 1905 according to the 1910 census of Cavendish, Vermont.  2) Deleted Edna N. Robinson as a spouse of Henry C. Flanders and deleted their supposed son, because Edna Robinson actually married Henry J. W. Flanders who is a different person than Henry C. Flanders.  Also revised the information on the siblings, birth date and name of Henry C. Flanders as found in his Civil War records as a member of the 1st Vermont Cavalry.  Some of this information was also distilled from several censuses of different counties of Vermont.

Hitchcock.  This is based on the content of an affidavit by Milton B. Hitchcock dated June 30, 1884, found in Cherokee County Land Records.  2) Added the spouse and two children of Dora M. Harmon, in whose household in Missouri George W. Harmon and Mary M. (Hitchcock) Harmon were living in 1900.  Also added the spouse and four children of Harvey Rogers Hitchcock, who were living in Benton County, Arkansas in 1900 and later.  All as found in several censuses of Missouri and Arkansas.  3) Revised information on the second marriage of Heber Howard Hitchcock to Mrs. Mary Brown as found in the Cherokee County Marriage Records.

Clark, identified from her listing in Daughters of the American Revolution, Vol. 113, DAR# 112882.  This listing was also used to confirm the ancestry of David Hitchcock, Jr.

Mergy and his second wife Mabel Grace Hitchcock.  Also added two children of Fred Allen Hitchcock and his first wife Minnie B. (Hasson) Hitchcock. All as found in 1900 through 1930 censuses of Scott Co., Iowa.  2) Deleted child of Charles A. Isaacs and Henrietta (Emmons) Isaacs, born about 1903, there was no child born to them at that time per the 1910 census of Forest City, Winnebago Co., Iowa.  Identified their daughter born about 1912 per the 1920 and 1930 censuses of Des Moines, Polk Co., Iowa, as Barbara Isaacs.  This couple had just two children, Richard, born 1905, and Barbara, born about 1912.
7 Feb. 2004:    3541    Added three daughters to the family of John Colton Hitchcock and Irena (Clark) Hitchcock.  One of these daughters was their first child, born about 1813, whose given name is unknown.  The second daughter is Jerusha Hitchcock, born about 1826 and the third is Lorinda Hitchcock, born about 1829.  Also added William A. Wolcott who was the spouse of Jerusha Hitchcock, and Clement D. Tuttle who was the spouse of Lorinda Hitchcock.  All of this as surmised from the 1830 and 1840 Ohio and Iowa censuses, the Iowa Marriage Records to 1850 for Des Moines Co. and the 1850 census of Danville, Des Moines Co., Iowa that showed the last two daughters and their spouses.
4 Feb. 2004:    3536    Added Thomas Brooks, who was the second husband of Mary J. (May) Estes and the step father of Lydia Alice Estes.  Lydia Estes was the wife of Edger Rice Braley, a brother of my great-grandfather Alson Henry Braley.  Lydia Estes was the daughter of Rufus Estes and Mary (May) Estes and when I tried to find out more about them from the 1880 census of Neosho Co., Kansas, I found that Lydia and her brother were then step children of a Thomas Brooks.  The 1870 census showed that both Mary (May) Estes and Thomas Brooks were single, but living together, at that time.  However, the records of Neosho Co. show that they had been married on June 26, 1870.  This census was enumerated late July 1870, but because the official date of the census was June 1, they are not shown as married.  They had a son, Ira, born about 1875.  I was not able to find much about Rufus Estes, except that he died between 1867 and 1870.

Smith) from the Social Security Death Index, and revised the information on birthplace of their children to Marshalltown, Iowa, based on 1938 social news from the Iowa City Press-Citizen.  2) Changed date of death for Etta Dell (Palmer) Braley (Mrs. Earnest Edward Braley) from 1940 to 1953 as discovered from the Britt, Iowa, newspaper The Britt News Tribune.  3) Added Joseph Horseman, as the father of Charles Horseman, and added Ebenezer Horseman as the first child of Charles Horseman and Elizabeth (Reed) Horseman, based on documentation of a compass Joseph owned that has been passed down to a living descendant, and the 1820 and 1830 censuses of Belton Co., Ohio.  Also revised dates of birth of the other children of Charles and Elizabeth Horseman to be in agreement with minutes from the Kennett Monthly Meeting.

Hitchcock in the 1895 Iowa State Census, and his grandfather was John Colton Hitchcock.  Also added a Mr. Whittaker as a spouse of Mary L. Hitchcock, twin sister of Clark Colton Hitchcock.  As found in an online database of the See family and the 1920 and 1930 censuses of Jackson Co., Missouri.
25 Jan. 2004:    3531    Changed date of birth for Clark Hitchcock from September 21, 1823, as calculated from his gravestone inscription, to September 25, 1820, which is the date from the records of the Hitchcock family.  The former date of birth was in conflict with his sister Fidelia's birth date.  This conflict was resolved by the discovery in the History of Des Moines County, that Clark Hitchcock and his older siblings, and parents, were founding members of the Danville Congregational Church in 1839, while his younger siblings, including Flavila, were not.  He must have been over 18 in 1839, and the family records are probably correct.  Apparently the gravestone inscription was either misread or in error.  Also updated and added several sources.
21 Jan. 2004:    3531    1) Added Wilda Estella Kerr as the second wife of Albert Cullen Hitchcock and their four children, and one of their spouses.  Added the six children (and one of their spouses) of Albert Cullen Hitchcock and his first wife, Jane Pabodie Stanley.  Changed Sadie (--?--) Hitchcock, who was thought to have been his second wife, to Sadie (McQueen) Hitchcock as his 3rd wife.  All as found in the 1895 Iowa State Census, 1900 Federal Census of Davenport, Iowa, the 1910 & 1920 Federal Censuses of Wichita, Kansas, in vital records from the Sedgwick Co., Kansas GenWeb site, and from correspondence with a living descendant of Wilda E. (Kerr) Hitchcock.  2) Added the spouses of three sons of Harvey Rexford Hitchcock and Rebecca (Howard) Hitchcock and one grandson.  This as contained in my notes but not previously included in this database.

Floyd Dudley) and 2 of their children.  This as found in the 1930 Federal Census of Golden, Colorado where this family is living at 710 14th Street, which had been the home of William Floyd Dudley's adoptive parents, David M. Hitchcock and Emily S. (Cole-Dudley) Hitchcock.  Additional information was found in the California Death Index and the Social Security Death Index.

They had 2 children, he died about 1830 and she married (2) David Goodhue, who became the step father of her 2 children.  This discovery explained why in the 1850 census of Groton, NH, there is a James W., 22, shown.  He is a son from her first marriage, a step son of David Goodhue.  This information, and additional details, obtained from the autobiography of Edward Payson Goodhue, a son of David and Elizabeth "Betsey" Goodhue.
