In 1795, John and Mary sold a tract of land, part of Lot No. 11 & 12 in the 16th range, along the Connecticut River near Catsbane Brook, in what is now West Chesterfield. (Source: Cheshire Co. NH, Registry of Deeds, Book 32, page 94.) Ebenezer Streeter, John's brother-in-law and Mary's sister's husband, had purchased Lot 15 in the 13th range, in 1773, in Chesterfield.
John and Mary moved to Chesterfield shortly after their wedding in late 1779. John played an active part in the development of the Town of Chesterfield (1760). He served as selectman in 1792, ("History of Chesterfield, Cheshire Co., NH", by O.E. Randall, 1882, page 186). He surveyed the boundary lines between Chesterfield and Swanzey, Winchester, and Hinsdale in 1793 (Ibid, page 9-10).
There are several places in Chesterfield that bear the Streeter name, "Streeter Hill" and "Streeter Hill Road". Both lie in the northwest quarter of the Town, and are just northeast of a tract of land owned by John and Mary Braley along the Connecticut River near Catsbane Brook. The approximate location of this property is shown by the thumbnail map on the right. Click on the map to see or download the full size version (167KB). John Braley sold this land in 1798 to Ely Oliver and the Deed Index mistakenly names John "Bradley". (Cheshire Co., NH Deed Register 32, page 94.)
